the planetary health project

The planetary health project is a culmination of sources, insights, and possible changes that can be implemented in healthcare to improve the health of people and our planet simultaneously. With contributors from various fields, the planetary health project aims to expand the outlook of future physicians.
The focus of the planetary health project is to find actionable practices to incorporate planetary health into medicine and medical training.

Planetary Health lectures were given to second year infectious disease fellows at the University of Florida in September 2025. The week long elective course focused on forest therapy, tropical viruses in a changing climate, and incorporating planetary health into clinical practice.
The planetary health elective course is scheduled to begin in 2026. The course will be available to fourth-year medical students at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
Current contributors include Dr. Amy Vittor and Dr. Gautam Kalyatanda from the University of Florida Department of Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine.
The planetary health fellowship is currently an active branch of Infectious Disease at UF Shands Hospital. This fellowship pairs with the Global Health track of Internal Medicine residents for periodic discussions and lectures to further the development of our young physicians.
