This project allows us to gain insight into what it is truly like to be a farmer. We hope to learn about farmers' health, zoonotic disease risks, climate adaptations, and better understand the benefits and hardships of farming in South Florida. Currently, our project is investigating farmers' health through interviews and blood testing.

Pilot project

The Florida Agroforestry project began as a pilot project in North Florida in 2024, allowing us to gain insight into the lives of farmers before expanding. We are investigating the use of agroforestry and regenerative agriculture in sustainable and local farming. Through a focus on farmer health and the infectious risks faced by farmers of all farming types, we aim to gather information on practices promoting human health and sustainability.

Working in the lab allows us to have full control over our own research. All of our methods are completed solely by our team in our laboratory at the University of Florida.

Our team strives to be hands on in our research. We value time spent in the field as it is time that we are able to witness first hand what our research truly means.
